Dead Rising 2: Off the Record is getting a sandbox mode

Capcom Vancouver did it, guys. They did the one thing that would get me interested enough to buyDead Rising 2: Off the Record— put in a mode free of time restraints. This is being called — wait for it — Sandbox Mode. In addition to being selectable from the start, Sandbox Mode supports single-player and co-op. Also included are challenges complete with online leaderboards. Some of the examples given were “Rumble in the Jungle,” “Chop Suey,” and “Silver Strip Smackdown....

Destructoid review: Flower

Yesterday wasn’t any fun for my girlfriend. She had a terrible day at work and was unable to snap out of a somber mood. I told her to check out thatgamecompany’sFlowerand see if the downloadable title would make her feel any better. I explained to her that when I played the game, I felt more relaxed and less at odds with the world than I have in a long time....

Destructoid Review: NPPL Championship Paintball 2009

Yes,NPPL Championship Paintball 2009came out in November, which, by my count, was about three and a half months ago. Ideally, I would’ve played it over Thanksgiving break, but the game didn’t hit my mailbox until almost December, by which time I was already off the radar, thanks to a rather long vacation to visit my Dad. So, I didn’t get to actually playNPPL 2009until January and, as life has a nasty habit of getting in the way of me playing videogames all day, I’m only just now feeling comfortable enough to review it....

The Internet Matlocks are at it again, this time extracting a file from a recentRock BandDLC pack. While I’m not even sure what would possess you to do this (or better yet, how you would do this), the results appear to be an eye-opening look at some future downloadable content from Harmonix’s mega-game. Included in the list are a number of the previously announced (but not specified) Grateful Dead tracks, as well as the remainder of Nirvana’sNevermindalbum (which many have anxiously been awaiting)....

E3 2008: Has the mainstream videogame media been too harsh on Nintendo?

[E3 community blogging contest winner:For the final E3 C Blog, y0j1mb0 talks about Nintendo’s major focus on the casual market.] If you were to take a look around the World Wide Web, one of the most talked about highlights now isn’t the coup that Microsoft sucker punched Sony regardingFinal Fantasy XIII, instead it’s this topic: Nintendo and Miyamoto have left us hardcore gamers down. They only hadAnimal Crossingand some fruity music game that the Man-Child genius Miyamoto unleashed on a stunned lethargic video press....

Epic Mickey on Xbox 360 or PS3? Maybe, says Spector

Wouldn’t that be Epic? Right now, Warren Spector’s new baby,Epic Mickey, is a Wii-only title. It’s coming out on the Wii because the game requires motion-sensing tech for the controls. Or so says Spector. But now that the PS3 and Xbox 360 will have motion-sensing tech with the Move and Kinect additions, the game could come out for those consoles. Spector told AtomicGamer:“Before Move and Kinect I probably would have said no, because the game is built around gesturing....

Excitebots sells a pathetic 13,000 copies in US

What a surprise. You get a genuinely original and fun looking title on the Wii and itsells like sh*t. Destructoid opinion ofExcitebots: Trick Racinghas been overwhelmingly positive, so it should be no shocker that the poor game has only managed to scrape 13,000 sales across the US. For a game that hasSuper Sandwichesin it, that’s more than sad. That’s a God damned tragedy. Excitebotshad everything going for it. It followed on from the considerably popularExcite Truck, it had plenty of kid-friendly appeal, andyou could play as a robotic praying mantis....

Final Fantasy XIV director is not worried about Bethesda

Final Fantasy XIV director Nobuaki Komoto is at gamescom showing off his work this week. It was there thatNowgamercaught up with him to ask about how he thought his game would fare against Western RPG powers Bethesda and Bioware. I would have loved to have seen his face and reaction when asked this, but the words alone give a pretty clear picture of his attitude on this: “Although I do think both developers are creating great games, unfortunately, both are so far virtually unknown to the mass public in Japan and the sales are quite disastrous, too....
