Google to watch you game?

The patent says: “User dialogue (eg from role playing games, simulation games, etc) may be used to characterise the user (eg literate, profane, blunt or polite, quiet etc). Also, user play may be used to characterise the user (eg cautious, risk-taker, aggressive, non-confrontational, stealthy, honest, cooperative, uncooperative, etc).” The information could be used to make adverts that appear inside the game more “relevant to the user”, Google says. Players who spend a lot of time exploring “may be interested in vacations, so the system may show ads for vacations”....

Halo used to be both an RTS and a 3rd person shooter!?

This is a great behind the scenes look at the old builds of the ever so popular game,Halo. I don’t even likeHalothat much and I still found the commentary to be enjoyable. Did you know that the game once featured a harpoon gun, a gravity wrench, and a mountable lizard? Bungie made it clear it would never see the light of day, as far as the general public was concerned. They DID allow a shakeycam version to be filmed that night, though, and that movie’s been out for almost 2 years now....

Halo: Reach may have ODSTs, will certainly have guns

The stars ofHalo: ODSTmight catch some action inHalo: Reach. In an interview withG4TV,Halowriter and game creative director Joseph Staten teased a possible reappearance of Buck and crew inHalo: Reach, a squad-based shooter set to be unveiled in moving-pictures at theSpike Video Game Awardsshow in a few days. “I can’t comment on any future plans for our ODSTs,” Staten said. “But it would be a shame if we made a game about the planet Reach — a place where Buck, the ODSTs squad leader was known to be — and not have him appear in some way, shape, or form....

Hands-on: Sid Meier’s Civilization V

I have fond memories of playingCivilization IIon my old HP Pavilion. Part of the charm aboutCivilization IIwas that it was an incredibly deep and enjoyable game hidden beneath a relatively simple exterior. I must have spent hundreds of hours playing that game, which means a lot for someone who does not view his personal computer as much of a game machine. I’m not the only one who spent his formative years in front of a computer screen clicking away at Sid Meier’s masterpiece series....

Happy vomit! Capy presents Critter Crunch! for PSN

Barfing on family members is majorly underrated. Thankfully, indie developerCapybara Games(Capy for short) is brave enough to not only make it a part of their new PSN game,Critter Crunch!, but it also involves rainbow spew. The game was originally released foriPhoneand took home a few awards before being ported over to PSN. The cute puzzle title puts you in the role of Biggs, a happy-go-lucky monster that likes to eat (and apparently to spit things back up)....

Here are some new Metro: Last Light screens

THQ has offered up a neat little bundle ofMetro: Last Lightscreenshots for your amusement. Just like the last game, this thing looks utterly gorgeous, so make sure to check it out if you’re one of those sultry graphics whores. I likeMetro 2033so muchI reviewed itover a year after its release, which sounds like less of a testament than it actually is. From what I’ve seen of Last Light, it takes the great foundation of the original and improves it in every way....

Hey bub, official X-Men Origins: Wolverine site is live and slashable

We’re all curious about Raven’sX-Men Origins: Wolverine. Not much has been revealed about the title. Thus far we know it has Wolverine, a helicopter, trees and a fast combo-based fighting system with “brutal finishing moves.” That knowledge base could change if you visited the property’sofficial website. Every time you swipe your mouse on the main page, a phantom knuckle with claws slashes the logo. A hit counter is keeping tracking of all the slashes the page receives....

Hot new Bayonetta artwork does little to curb my lust

Okay, so this selection of artwork is about as revealing as a particularly prudish Nun in a “keep your clothes on” competition, but that doesn’t mean I still don’t want to make violent love toBayonetta. This freaky action game is promising all sorts of ridiculously OTT fun, so I’m willing to take any excuse I can to talk about it. These new images will do nicely. What we have here are a couple of environments and some CG renders of what I assume to be enemies and Bayonetta herself....

Indie Nation #6: Cave Story

How does one even begin to do justice toCave Story? Lengthy, clever, and beautiful, this incredibleMetroid-esque side scroller is not only one of the single best indie games ever made, but also one of the most important. Daisuke Amaya created a world of robots and bunnies and sorcerers which, despite its friendly SNES-era look, truly contains one of the most challenging and satisfying nonlinear 2D shooters ever made. Ever. Honestly, if I found a way to putCave Storyon an SNES cartridge, go back in time to the 90’s, and sell it as if it were just your regular big-budget game, nobody would hesitate to call it one of the greatest games of all time....
