New game makes diabetes slightly less horrifying

You know what scares the hell out of me? Diabetes. First, I’m a sugar fiend and the thought of having to restrict myself beyond what my budget already limits me to seems like it would be miserable. Worse, though, is the interminable pricking to get glucose levels tested and the administration of insulin. Needles are terrifying. If I had been a diabetic child, perhaps this invention would have helped. Didget is a glucose reader that’s designed to connect with a Nintendo DS action-adventure game calledKnock ’em Downs World’s Fairand reward players for regularly checking their levels with in-game benefits....

Nintendo completes phase one of world takeover plot

Nintendo stated that their plan with the name “Wii” was an effort to make a console that could appeal to everyone universally. While I wasn’t so crazy about the name itself (or the related appearance of every pecker joke known to man), I liked the idea Ninty put forward. As a gamer who fell in love at age 9 with the NES, I respect a console maker who still has the balls to appeal to children and adults alike rather than just going for the next gen glory....

Three words —Excitebike: World Rally(1-4 players, 1,000 Wii Points). The WiiWare update of the original that was just recently announced is available today, with online multiplayer, updated visuals, and more. The track editor makes it a return, as well, and so do I. I’m buying this game as soon as it’s available for download, which should be today around 9:00 A.M. Pacific. Race with me, will you? Konami is also bringing Frogger back forFrogger Returns(1-2 players, 500 Wii Points), which has the frog looking both ways before it crosses a bunch of new roads with updated graphics and more....

Nintendo high as a kite: Worth more money than babies and love combined

Nintendo is rich, you know it and I know it. Tales of its not-really-rags-to-riches adventures litter the Internet like so many freshly crushed cans of Tizer. That said, L’big N still finds ways to make such stories jawdropping, like the fact that it’s now wortha lifetime high of 10 trillion yen($85 billion). That is a lot of yen, for people who don’t understand finance. Nintendo stock has risen 5.3% to 71,300 yen as of yesterday, meaning Nintendo’s value has increased fivefold over the past two years....

NY Comic Con ’09 video recap: Valentine’s Day Edition

Happy Pre-Valentine’s Day everybody! If you’re spending it alone this year, remember, it could always be worse. You could be aloneandhave a video like this made about you.Unlikethe first NY CC video, I had nothing to with editing duties this time around. Though I wish I had the guts to put together a video dedicated to making me look like a total zero with the ladies, I just don’t possess that kind of self-confidence (or self-loathing)....

Oh, so this is how you do Mirror’s Edge on the iPhone

A bit of a surprise, EA Mobile announced that it would be bringingMirror’s Edgeto the iPhone this Spring. My first question was “Okay, how does that work?” Well, here’s my answer in the form of a trailer showing off the game in action. It looks like a bit of a 2D-style running sidescroller, rendered using a 3D engine. Visually it’s not bad, and Faith looks as limber as ever. Anyone else getting aCanabaltvibe?...

Optionally obligatory online gaming

Gaming and the Internet go hand in hand, both technologically and culturally. We grew up with both, we witnessed the synergy of both, now the two seem as inseperable as thirty-year-old Jaffa cakes. While it germinated and blossomed on the PC, online console gaming has really started to take shape in kind and nowadays almost every major title is expected to have at least some kind of online functionality, be it on Xbox Live, the PlayStation Network, or whatever it is that the Wii thinks it has....
