On Monday, the Destructoid Show will have a very special episode. It’s going to be a lot of fun, and several Destructoid editors have piled in to help. I decided to mark the occasion by busting out my little known poetry skills. Here’s a poem for Ekans.
If you thought Electronic Arts’ acquisition of PopCap meant they’d stop making games, instead simply reaching directly into your wallets for money, think again! The developer has revealed one of its upcoming games,Pig Up, and an early version isplayable right now on Facebook. The game has you, as a pig, strapping on wooden wings and flying about the sky, picking up apples and avoiding mean old bees. It’s classic PopCap, simple and fun — the only controls are clicking the mouse to flap your wings....
In seems that reworking old videogame covers in styles popularized by artsy fartsy books and movies is the new cool thing to do. For the cynical, it might seem like internet hivemind, but I can spot a good concept when I see it. The newest contributions to the alternative box art scene (Is there such a scene?...
…at least, not at first. There will be 3D support in the update coming in June, but that’s only for 3D games likeWipeout HD, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, Super Stardust HDandPain, all of which are coming out soon, and will be packed in with Sony’s high-end Bravia 3D TV. If you’re the early adopter that gets the 3D Bravia TV, you won’t be using your PS3 to watch your fancy new 3D Blu-ray discs....
Finally, here’s yet another reason to own a Playstation 3.SquareEnix is givingFinal Fantasy VII: Advent Childrena shiny new coat of paint for its Blu-ray debut in 2008. There’s no exact date for the release, but let’s hope for an early spring release. There’s also no word if there will be extra content for the new release, but I think Cloud in high definition is enough for me to buy a Blu-ray player....

Rockstar games has announced today that it will launch a beta for a Facebook game calledRed Dead Redemption: Gunslingersthis Monday, April 12. The game is being called “an action-RPG experience” which will give players the opportunity to “duel friends, frenemies, foes, and everyone in between.” (No extra points for using the word “frenemies,” Rockstar.) You’ll be able to choose from one of three characters — Outlaw, Fast Hands, and Sharpshooter — and the game will support an achievement system, as well as the ability to form posses....

Every week, features editor Anthony Burch bitches to a camera for a few minutes and calls it a “Rev Rant” even though he’s sort of trying to get rid of the “Reverend” moniker. It’s not the best idea ever. This week’s rant is about item acquisition — rabbing coins, hoarding ethers, getting item upgrades — and why such collect-a-thon gameplay may be the virtual equivalent of OD’ing on chocolate. Dunno what else to say about it, really....
After receiving a quick pass at the top of the box in a qualifying match against Denmark, Albanian striker Hamdi Salihi fired a neat ball across keeper Thomas Sørensen into the bottom corner of the goal. In the midst of his celebrations, I held down the left bumper on my controller and toggled the right stick back and forth, prompting Salihi into a series of — for lack of a better word — jump kicks, the last of which hit defender Daniel Agger in the face....
I remember how I came acrossScribblenauts. This was one of those games that I went out of my way to play after hearing about how people were creating items in a game by simply jotting a word down. Fantastic images filled my head after hearing stories of the game recognizing internet memes. Everyone was talking about it, so my imagination went wild. I played it and was seriously underwhelmed. I found myself typing out words that were really just solutions to puzzles, and there wasn’t really that much interactivity between your character and the created item....
The first images forSaints Row 3have shown up. The main promo pic reveals Johnny Gat with his trademark shades, an assault rifle, and a champagne bottle, while a young lady boards a plane with her own gun and, presumably, a bag of ill-gotten loot. The second image is less visually stimulating, but a bit more revealing, as it declares we can “strap it on” this coming Holiday season — a bit more definite than THQ’s previous “Fall” release window....
